Surly Cross x Check

Earlier this week I found a bike I’ve always wanted at a price I couldn’t refuse. Setup as a single speed, really nice used shape. I have a few more tweaks to perform but since I purchased it I’ve:

  • swapped out the flat bars for drop bars

  • swapped out the V-brake for cantilevers

  • swapped out the Schwalbe Marathons for some Kendra Slant 6 cross tires

  • added a water bottle cage

  • added a front rack (those old cheap Nashbar racks that I wish were still available.

Still on the list to add:

  • install bar tape once I confirm the brake position is good

  • swap out the saddle (probably a brooks C-17)

  • swap out the pedals to SPD clipless

  • possibly swap out the freewheel to slightly smaller one

  • possibly add a fixed cog and longing ring to the other side of the Surly flip-flop hub

  • some type of a bag to be able to carry a little food and coffee outside stuff. Leaning towards a frame bag or saddle bag

But while all fo these things are waiting to be done, I’ll just be riding this thing while the weather allows. 👍
